RESEARCHER’S NIGHT

The “Researcher’s Night” is an event organized by the Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) in collaboration with academic and research institutions as well as other organisations in Cyprus. The event is an initiative of the European Commission and takes place simultaneously in almost all European countries. Those joining us at Filoxenia Conference Centre on the 27th of September 2019 for the “Researcher’s Night 2019”, will have the opportunity to enjoy a creative night-time event dedicated to science and research, through experiments, games, competitions and music. Audiences of different ages will have the opportunity to meet up with Cypriot researchers and see their work, in a festive, friendly atmosphere. In each stand researchers will present their work and inform the public about the role and importance of research in the modern world as well as the practical applications of their research results in everyday life. At the same time, participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments and become researchers for one night! The European “Researchers’ Night 2019” in Cyprus is funded by the European Commission under the “Horizon 2020” Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (Project no. 818355).

Title: The Parking Wizard!
Short Description: How good are you in finding the best parking spot? What makes a parking place the best? Do we care about distances, times, cost, services, or payment method?

Set yourself against our intelligent algorithm and see who will come out as a winner in a city parking challenge!
We showcase a mobile phone application to help drivers find the best available parking spot in a city, given a set of requirements and constraints. This is an increasingly important issue for drivers in large urban areas or areas with limited public transportation, where car parking spaces are scarce.  We demonstrate the application using a part of Nicosia, in which the designated parking spaces have been properly defined for use by our system. An intelligent algorithm runs will provide a ranking of the most relevant parking spaces to the users’ search based on criteria including, but not limited to, closeness to intended destination, cost of parking space, distance from destination, fuel cost to destination, probability of adjacent parking availability, etc

Short Description: When you do a search for “Cyprus” on Google, do you see the same results as someone in Russia? Or compared to someone who is older than you? In fact, what we see as an “objective” search engine may be exposing us to only a portion of the information out there. Try our demo and see for yourself how results may change depending on who’s searching!

Title: The RISE holographic experience
Short Description: In this setup, visitors will have the opportunity to view and experiment with a first prototype of a hologram application with interactive elements.
